I play the viola and everyone treats me like dirt in my orchestra, why?

Do all violas get mocked as much as violas in my orchestra?


I know that violins are higher and that cellos are lower,


but it doesn't mean they are better than us.


Maybe it's just my orchestra,


or maybe it's just me.


Why do violas get mocked so much?


and there are SO MANY viola jokes!!!


Like, how is a viola and a law suit similar?


everyone is happy when the case is closed.


or, how is a violist and a lightning similar?


it never hits the same place twice.


I think it's unfair.

Reply:My dear Kim, there is nothing wrong with playing the viola. and if ppl make fun of you, just think well this is something that i can do and obviously you cant. Not to mention if you have plans on ever becoming part of a famous orchestra than you have a leg up on things. And i personally love the sound of a viola plus I play guitar. SO KUDOS TO YOU, and you keep right on with your playing.
Reply:i took orchestra in middle school as a blowoff class. but we were all fine. we had like..5 violas, and we never treated them like ****. soo i think its just ur oorch. cuz ima senior right now, and i know some ppl who r taking orch. and there violist, and they say everyone treats everyone the same. plus, theres jokes about everythnig, and everyone out in the world nowadays. dont take it too hard. and ignore them? and hecks, cellos and violas, should get along. there parts and ect. r very similar. since they use the same clef mark. soo no use in cello players dissing you.
Reply:same thing happened in my high school orchestra. and I don't understand why. I was a violin player. my best friend was a viola player...and neither of us ever understood the way she was treated. sorry you're getting mistreated. maybe bring it up with your teacher, and if he/she's a better teacher than mine was, maybe he/she will put an end to the mockery in class.

Reply:DUDE. i play the viola too. but thats weird, cause no one treated me like dirt. they like repected me because they werent that many violas, so like to them, i was like "special." but just keep in mind that viola players arent common so you should also feel "special". lol i dont think that helped, but ..

Reply:Whats the difference between the viola and the violin? The Viola burns longer. The viola is just a maligned insrtument, its awkward and inbetween ranges. Its just something you have to get used to if you play the viola, and music, as in life, isn't fair.
