It should be a song practical for an 18 year old in a high band to play. Finding sheet music for this time period that free for a solo viola is AWESOME!
Are there any songs for Viola alone written in the 1910-1929 in America?
I won't be at work for a couple days, so I can't check my bibliographies. And anything written after 1923 "that free" is highly unlikely, as it will be in copyright. But the two composers I'd be checking for possible repertoire are Rebecca Clarke and Quincy Porter.
