There are a lot of different types of violas and violets. They often take different culture and produce seeds in different ways. Some have only one type of flower and produce seed above the foliage, while other wild violas have two types of flowers - the colored (and sterile) blossom and ground-level cleistogamous flowers, which lack petals and produce seed. Pansies and bedding violas usually produce seed in their ornamental blossoms. Some are also sun lovers, like pansies and viola cucullata, and some are wild woods plants that need some shade.

Reply:Seeds - look up pansies as they are very similar - rock gardens and borders - need sun and water - grasshoppers, earwigs and kids.

grow long and leggy if not picked but can be cut back for a while - can grow your own seed but don't grow true to parent colour

Reply:Violas are annuals that like cool weather - spring and fall. Grown from seeds or you can root cuttings in a clear container of water.

Flowers are edible.

Prefer full sun. Heavy feeders can be fertilized weekly.

Slugs and grasshoppers eat them, but luckily don't like the cool weather that violas like.
