Question on a viola?

I bought a viola some time ago online. Don't know where or exactly how to put the bridge on. I really want to get started on relearning it but I'm clueless on putting on the bridge and tuning.

I plan on getting a tuner...or else using my keyboard to tune by ear.

Question on a viola?
I would go to a music shop that specializes on violins, violas etc. They should be able to fix it up for you with minimum cost. If you really want to try to put it on yourself, then follow these steps.

1. Look for a mark in between the f-holes where it looks like the bridge used to go. If this is a new viola that hasn't had a bridge on it yet, then locate the space in between the f-holes and put the bridge about 2 1/2 in. away from the finger board.

2. Once you find the place where the bridge should go, get the strings, and put them on from left to right in this order. C, G, D, A.

3. Screw the pegs on the right side of the scroll (the side with the D and A string clockwise, and screw the pegs on the left side of the scroll counterclockwise. This will tighten the strings.

4. before you screw the strings tight, take the bridge and put it in the same spot that you found for it earlier. Once in position, start tightening the strings. You should notice little "indents" on the bridge. Those indents are meant to hold the strings on the bridge.

5. Once the strings are supporting the bridge, take the viola sideways and make sure the bridge is at a 90 degree angle from the viola.

6 tighten the strings the rest of the way until they are in tune.

Once in tune, check the bridge one more time to make sure that it is in the right place.

7. The first 3 days, the strings on the viola will need to be tuned about twice a-day, as they will be stretching alot.

Hope this helped!!!!! Good luck relearning!
