I've just started learning.





What do you like about the viola?





Any tips or information you can pass on to me?





I already play the flute and the Alto Clef is a bit of a trial, but I'm determined to crack it!

One thing that may help is the fact that you can use the same mnemonic devices with Alto clef, that you currently use with Treble clef. If you start at the First line, you can still use





F - A - C - E (G)





Now, for the G, I use "Guard"





F - A - C - E - Guard





If you start from the first space below the staff, you can use





E-mpty G-arbage B-efore D-ad F-reaks





(Personally, over half of most of my classes are females and they literally do not care if good boys are doing fine always or not - so there!)





You probably already know that Middle C is pointed out by your clef (hence the nickname, C Clef)





Viola is an excellent instrument to add to your collection.

Reply:I stated learning the violin when I was a teenager, then my teacher died, and the whole idea fizzled out. I rather wish it hadn't - keep persevering - the viola has a lovely sound.
Reply:I used to play it. I like the sound of it for one things. However I don't find it really that comfortable. For tips, just practice, practice. It's like that with every instrument.
